Union Institute & University, a national, not-for-profit university for adult learners offering programs of study leading to bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees is seeking to fill a full-time faculty position in Ethical and Creative Leadership for its Ph.D. Program in Interdisciplinary Studies. This position requires a doctoral degree in a leadership related discipline with demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship as well as evidence of an active and productive research agenda and successful college teaching experience.

Union Institute & University's doctoral programs are grounded in humanistic inquiry and incorporate developing interdisciplinary fields of study in ways that advance understanding of ethics, the creative process and the possibilities of institutional and social change. The cohort-based Ph.D. program in Interdisciplinary Studies utilizes a rich academic environment that combines a carefully designed curriculum of course work with opportunities for learners to develop their individual and specialized research interests.

The Ph.D. Program in Interdisciplinary Studies is designed for working/professional adults and is offered in a low-residency format that combines face-to-face academic residencies with a variety of approaches (eCollege, interactive video seminar sessions, telephone conferences) to distance instruction. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary study, with a strong attentiveness to ethics and social justice, creativity, and diversity. The low-residency, distance format of the program does not require Cincinnati residence.
Ethical and Creative Leadership (ECL) is one of three areas of concentration within the program. It shares with its companion concentrations (Humanities and Culture and Public Policy and Social Change) a commitment to academic exploration that extends beyond traditional boundaries. This exploration defines the distinctive approach to the study of leadership. The ECL concentration strives toward new and alternative ways of understanding the study of leadership.

Responsibilities of the full-time faculty position include curriculum development and integration, teaching seminars, research, dissertation supervision and other program and university services. In addition, the position may serve as chair of the ECL concentration and, as such, would coordinate the work of the ECL faculty. This position will report to the dean of the program who may assign additional responsibilities and committee work.

Qualifications:
Those applicants with a compelling combination of the following qualifications will receive the most serious consideration:
* Teaching experience at the graduate level including the supervision of dissertation research.
* A substantial background in leadership studies exemplified by a record of publication and teaching.
* Scholarly credentials sufficient to warrant appointment at the senior assistant, associate or full-professor level.
* An active research agenda appropriate to the program.
* Openness to and experience in teaching adults and delivery of distance education.
* Commitment to the integrative themes of ethics and social justice, creativity and engaging difference.
* Curriculum development.
