The Director of Library Services provides leadership for the administration of a collection of centralized online and ground library resources that serves a diverse audience of nationally and regionally accredited institutions located across the United States and internationally. The Director of Library Services will be accountable for adhering to regulations and meeting expectations as defined in service level agreements with CEC's institutions of higher education. The library is accessed by online and onground faculty and students representing associate, bachelor, master's and doctorate programs of study in art and design further branching out to more technology focused programs. This position will provide leadership and oversight to a team of Learning Resource Center Coordinators that provide online and on-ground reference and research support to students and faculty. The Director of Library Services is continuously informed by constituents and actively participates in library planning meetings, committees and task forces to ensure that the resource holdings and the library services meet the needs of the faculty and students. The Director of Library Services is responsible for data collection, analysis and reporting upon resource and service utilization for purposes of continuous improvement.
Essential Function and Responsibilities:
  • Promote and encourage the ethical use of information by faculty and students;
  • Facilitate information literacy as the ability to identify information needs, and to locate, analyze, synthesize, evaluate and communicate information that addresses those needs ;
  • Develop a strategic plan in collaboration with the academic leadership of each of the SBUs to ensure that the library resources and services planned and provided meet the needs of faculty, students, institutions, and regulatory bodies;
  • Develop an annual budget that supports the strategic plan for the library resources as well as the Enterprise;
  • Partner with academic leadership to ensure that digital content selected for the online library supports the variety of programs of study delivered by the institutions in each of the Strategic Business Units;
  • Identify and evaluate vendors and products to secure the library resources needed to support ground and online institutions;
  • Engage Procurement to develop purchase agreements and statements of work for various library requirements;
  • Manage the library website in conjunction with Corporate IT;
  • Develop and maintain library documentation and training materials for librarians and school staff;
  • Develop and deliver training to librarians, faculty, and staff;
  • Assist librarians and school administrators to prepare the school library for accreditation visits, including evaluation of the library, library documentation, and staff training;
  • Develop core library collection lists for new programs and start-up schools;
  • Work with Corporate Legal, provide training and assistance to the librarians and school staff on copyright issues and implementation of CEC copyright policies and contracts;
  • Collect usage data and evaluate effectiveness of the library resources and services as part of the continuous improvement process; and
  • Remain aware of changing guidelines, legislation, trends and emerging technology affecting library resources and services.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to campus Learning Resource Coordinators.
Minimum Qualifications:
The qualified candidate should possess:
  • The ability to work in a team environment, strong training skills, good project management skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to customer service;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing an academic library;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all aspect of library principles, concepts, methodology, operation, function and management required to perform the professional and administrative responsibilities of the position;
  • Experience with current and emerging digital repository technologies ;
  • Experience in the selection, management and use of library electronic resources such as full-text periodical databases and electronic books and conducting web-based research;
  • Experience working with procurement rules and acquisition policies;
  • Knowledge of online database searching and research techniques;
  • Ability to present information effectively to a diverse audience;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision; and
  • Flexibility and an ability to adapt to an environment of continuous growth and change.
Experience Required
  • Master's in Library Science or Masters in Library and Information Science.
  • Degree from an American Library Association accredited program preferred.
  • Ability to work remote
