Contributing faculty members serve in a part-time capacity to educate Walden University Students by effectively and proficiently using online technology and resources so that knowledge, information, feedback, and critique are imparted to and shared with students in thoughtful, carefully formulated, well written, and timely communications. This is accomplished in an environment that is respectful of student, the Faculty Member, Walden University, and the discipline in which the Faculty Member is involved. Faculty Members are expected to adhere to all Walden University Faculty expectations, which are clearly set forth to the Faculty Member at the start of his/her employment with the University.

The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership seeks faculty who are experienced educational researchers to fill part time academic faculty positions. These academic faculty members will report to the Associate Dean for Doctoral Programs or to the Program Director and will work closely with Senior Research Leads and Mentors, Specialization Coordinators, academic advising, and administrative staff within the College of Education and Leadership. Contributing, part-time faculty will be invited to serve as chair and second members of doctoral study committees with the EdD programs. They may also be invited to serve as third committee member quality reviewers or to instruct courses in research methodology.

We are specifically looking for nursing educators and healthcare professionals to serve as content experts and methodologists on doctoral study committees in the field of education.

Training
All new faculty members receive specific training from Walden University in the techniques teaching, use of an electronic learning platform, specifics of the policies, procedures and degree programs of the School or College in which they are going to teach, socialization into the Walden University culture, assessment of academic integrity of student work (including use ofwww.turnitin.com), and research supervision of theses and dissertations.

Committee Membership
This position is primarily to serve on doctoral study committees. Committee chairs are assigned to committee-related courses and are expected to check and respond to student posts at least once each week.

Course Teaching
Faculty Members are assigned a course, which is taught using the eCollege platform, and are responsible for interacting with students within this platform. Discussion Boards for classrooms are open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Although postings to the classroom may be done at any time of day, they must be completed in a timely manner in accordance with the Faculty Handbook or other criteria established by Walden University. As such, Faculty Members are expected to be in the classroom a minimum of 4 days per week and responses to student questions must be posted within 48 hours. Faculty Members are required to verify the accuracy of student postings and submissions and to provide feedback and grades to students through eCollege.

Residencies
Part-time faculty may be invited to attend Residencies held domestically or internationally to facilitate workshops and colloquia.

RESPONSIBILITIES
-Serve as first or second member of doctoral project study committees
-May be asked to serve as University Research Reviewers
-Instruct methodology courses or modules when needed
-Participate in program and university based residencies

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.

TOOLS/TECHNICAL SKILLS
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Faculty members are required to have an adequate computer to handle an electronic learning platform, keyboard, pointing device, and computer monitor. All other tools are knowledge-based or training-based through Walden University. The Faculty Member must be able to use Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat and must have reliable Internet access as well as alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable.

Experience:

Some travel may be requested (maximally once per calendar quarter.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required
-Earned doctorate from an accredited university in education, nursing education, or a health related discipline.
-Either nine semester hours of research-related coursework or at least two years of demonstrated experience in evaluation or research activities. (Please list courses in your cover letter or CV)
-Two years experience either teaching or advising graduate students or researchers.
-Academic or professional contributions related to education, nursing education, or a health related discipline as demonstrated by publication of at least one peer-reviewed article, chapter, or book or multiple research or evaluation reports.
-Familiarity with online learning or teaching.
-Experience working in healthcare or as a nursing educator.

Preferred
-Experience chairing or advising students about their masters or doctoral research.
-Experience working with students online in a distance learning environment.
-Experience working with faculty and students from a variety of backgrounds that reflect Walden's mission of broad access to education.
-Excellent leadership, mediation, communication, team, and human relations skills.
-Active involvement in professional associations and research activities.
-Knowledge of the process for protecting human participants in research.
-Interest in applied, action, or evaluative research.

LICENSURE and/or CERTIFICATION:
Faculty Members must be appropriately credentialed, possess an earned degree from an accredited institution or recognized by a country's ministry of education in the discipline being taught, and may be expected to be licensed or license-eligible in order to teach in specific programs. Faculty Members must maintain their licenses and any appropriate certifications in order to continue to teach at Walden University. Faculty Members are also expected to maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations. If participating in research, the Faculty Member may publish and acknowledge Walden University.

Availability
Walden expects faculty to be reasonably accessible to students. Faculty members are expected to be available to students outside the course discussion board and in addition to providing substantive feedback on assignments and postings. Faculty members will publish their availability to students through course syllabi, instructor The university suggests regular and predictable availability, such as online office hours or regular online chats.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment, but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for six to eight hours daily and includes physical demands associated with a traditional office setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions as necessary.

The primary physical demands are handling a mouse, which requires reaching and handling, using a keyboard, which requires fingering, near vision (20 inches or less), and mid-range vision (more than 20 inches in distance) to focus on the computer monitor, or hard copy as is necessary. Depth perception (the judging of distances and spatial relationships) and visual accommodation (used to do near point work at varying distances) are not necessary to perform the work of the Faculty Member.
