POSITION SUMMARY

South University offers personalized student attention and high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs in arts and sciences, business, health professions, nursing, and pharmacy across its campuses and online.

The Subject Matter Expert is responsible for creating and/or reviewing course documentation for South University's undergraduate courses in communications. The Subject Matter Expert works closely with a curriculum development team and other education experts to develop courses to meet the needs of South University's student population within time and resource budget requirements.

As an expert in a wide range of Communications educational and professional domains, the Subject Matter Expert develops written course deliverables. In addition, the Subject Matter Expert reviews content developed by the team to ensure that prescribed quality and operational objectives are obtained.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

* Terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D.) in Communications, Mass Communications, or Media Studies required
* Knowledge of and experience with current education trends, program design, and course design in Communications required
* Current teaching experience in undergraduate Communications courses required
* Professional work experience in Communications preferred
* Knowledge of online pedagogy and instructional design preferred
* Position is virtually based and must reside within the United States
* Ability to balance academic quality and integrity with business imperatives
* Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the drive to meet any and all deadlines in the program development project plan
* Technologically independent (including access to broadband Internet)
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to act effectively and work collaboratively as a member of a virtual team

Position Description
Adjunct faculty of the School of Business and Leadership will be responsible to teach adult students curriculum established by IWU in our facilitator model of instruction as opportunities become available. Online courses meet in the Blackboard environment throughout each week for 5-6. Each course may include up to 25 students.

Adjunct faculty members will:
* Demonstrate expertise in their content area
* Facilitate engaging individual and group instructional activities
* Motivate students to actively participate in all aspect of the educational process.
* Assist students in achieving completion of objectives and learning outcomes.
* Utilize appropriate technology for instruction (e.g. Power-point, Blackboard, Internet Resources)
* Incorporate Biblical principles into their content area
* Communicate with all IWU constituents in a professional and academic manner
* Take advantage of teaching moments and other communication opportunities through the use of weekly announcements and emails.
* Advise students in matters related to academics, attendance, and behaviors.
* Respond to student questions within 24 hours of requests.
* Grade student assignments, giving substantive feedback and critical evaluation, within one week of the due date for the assignment.
* Maintain and report student grades and attendance in accordance with university policies
* Fulfill three faculty development sessions per year.
* Complete other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills
Qualifications:

Ph.D in Business Communication, English, Communication, Rhetoric, or a similar major; five years experience of college-level teaching in the field, or a speechwriter/maker.
